Grace Baker: Do not, do not, do not
A Veterans Day poem about the weight of a soldier’s choice to pull the trigger.
Do not pick up the gun so near To shoot those that are held dear Do not forget to stop and think Of this man’s friends who eat and drink
Do not take the life of one Who has a wife and child, a son Do not pull the trigger back Before using proper tact
Do not forget of the family you hurt Of the uncle that sighed For he borrowed his shirt Do not neglect that with this one choice You decide a man’s fate You have taken his voice
Do not shoot at the man that is here For he could be you And shed a big tear Do not shoot the man that will plead For you have taken his life It shall be gone indeed
These words may sound humble But they really are not They will cause a great bumble They cannot be taught These words speak of socialism Of a perfect world
The man you are shooting Although he’s not dumb Is killing other families He doesn’t hear a guitar strum He is causing much damage He is endangering your life He is not a man to be trusted Oh, this is a strife
So you may be wondering “Do I shoot him or not?” This question is unanswerable But it is asked a lot I wish that I could easily say “Do not, do not, do not”
