Start Here: Maddie and Tae
A student review of the country duo Maddie & Tae and their debut album, Start Here.
Maddie & Tae is a country duo who make music based on their feelings and life experiences.
They have a great sound and a great message. The thing I like most is how they harmonize, and their humor. Maddie & Tae have great voices and I would like to see more from them in the future, and hopefully sometime soon.
I believe Maddie & Tae don’t have anything to work on, but practice is always a good thing to have extra. Their use of the instruments other than guitar played by the duo was exceptional. They wanted to write from a girl’s perspective: “you know, how does she feel wearing those cut-off shorts, sitting on the tailgate.” This is shown in the song “Girl in a Country Song.” The music video for this song shows that the girls have an amazing sense of humor.
Maddie & Tae are deeply invested in their music; their approach to music is uncommon in vocalized country music. Maddie & Tae understand music and the harmonies and most other styles of singing, so they have a great blend. This is all of their songs, with the way they sound together and harmonize almost perfectly.
Maddie & Tae have released one album, called “Start Here.” It was released on August 28. After spending over one-quarter of their lives on it, they finally released their first album, Start Here.
What Maddie & Tae did after Start Here
The reviewer wanted to hear more from the duo, and more did come, though it took a while. Their label, Dot Records, closed, and in June 2017 they announced a deal with UMG Nashville. They have been on Mercury Nashville since early 2018. Start Here itself had come out on August 28, 2015, on Dot Records, the revived label that signed the duo as its very first act in 2014.
Their 2019 single “Die from a Broken Heart” went to number one on the Country Airplay chart, the same spot “Girl in a Country Song” had reached in December 2014. A second album, The Way It Feels, followed on April 10, 2020. Two Through the Madness EPs came out in 2022, the EP What a Woman Can Do in September 2024, and a third studio album, Love & Light, on May 2, 2025.
