National Cappuccino Day

December 3, 2014 School year 2014/15

Have you been tired from the early morning rush? Have you been craving something sweet and creamy? November 8th, National Cappuccino Day, is the day where you can chug down the Italian beverage. Cappuccinos are traditionally prepared with espresso. The strong coffee is then mixed with warm milk and steamed foam. This is one of the most difficult espresso-based drinks to create. There are lots to carefully measure and watch when making. You could easily put a barista to the test by ordering a cappuccino.

The word cappuccino comes from the Italian word meaning “hood.” It became cappuccino, meaning coffee, because the drink was like the color of the hoods that the friars wore. But let’s take it back to where coffee was started. In 1945, a bartender from Milan, Italy, invented the modern espresso machine. Later the cappuccino would become popular. By the 1900’s espressos were becoming a lot more popular in North America and upscale coffee shops were forming. In the late 1900’s to the early 2000’s, the United States coffee industry was flourishing. By the 21st century, modified versions of cappuccinos were being served in fast food chains.

November 8th, the fall season is ending. The air is cooling, but the cappuccinos are brewing.
