Why is YouTube better than Television:
- There’s more things to watch on YouTube than on Television
- More options on what you would like to watch
- You’re able to watch your shows on YouTube
- On YouTube there is more to watch, while on Television there are never-ending reruns of shows, and the same episode will play over again
- YouTube gives you the ability to watch things over and over and even catch up on some of your favorite TV shows, while in actuality, TV only gives you certain things to watch since it’s on a scheduled basis.
- Anyone can become a celebrity on YouTube
- YouTube is more popular than regular Television
- 68% of those asked said they watched more video content from YouTube than any other platform. 51% were still avid TV watchers, and 49% spent most of their viewing time with Netflix.

The research since
The idea that anyone can become a celebrity on YouTube has since been studied in a serious setting: the weather. A 2026 mixed-methods study (arXiv:2606.09838) compared how viewers judge TV meteorologists and YouTube "weatherfluencers." The TV forecasters were rated higher on credibility, legitimacy and usefulness for safety, while the YouTubers matched them on objectivity. Even so, the YouTube audiences keep growing, which the authors describe as a split between where people's attention goes and who holds professional or official authority.
